VR GIS

VR GIS is a Text editor [File, Edit], with Tools: Remote Controller, Task commander, View commander, VR GIS Program Launcher, and Project Manager.

During installation the Borland Database Engine, required .dll's, Windows menu icons, and program directories are selected and set up. The other programs DO NOT have BDE installation, even if they require BDE for their database functions. This allows other VR GIS programs to be simply unzipped into the VR GIS directory for operation; thus saving several megabytes and minutes per version-installation.

VR GIS Menu:

• Remote Control: adapation of Bens : Remote Control of networked computers. A Drone (VrRcDrone.exe) is run on the computer to BE Remote Controlled. VR GIS can then run that computer in a window.
• Task Commander: Run tasks on [networked] computers using Internet Direct (Indy) networking code. A Tachyon Unit program is run as a VR GIS Drone on the [networked] computer to perform the tasks. (as of Oct2004 only DTM is Drone capable) The type of task and one of the Tachyon Unit programs is selected. VR GIS can then Send tasks to the Drone to be performed on the other computer. [the Task Commander will send requests to the actual programs] (The source code for VrgisDll.dll is included so anyone can tailor..add tasks of their own design).
• View Commander: is Not Available.. may be SOS MAP... tasks other computers for data processing and maintains the 3D display.
• VR GIS Launcher Run tasks on [Local] computer. Launch VR GIS programs that perform the tasks: (Parameters: Import-Export task Code > Filename (in-out) > Processing variables)

• Project Management: The idea is to have a program manager that tracks the operations of the other programs and maintains the databases. Unfortunately, at this time, it is not much more than an idea. VRGIS_ is a central database storage directory containing directories for Rad, Rod, Video, Rave, Metadata, and Thumbnail databases.

VR GIS .. partially OBE (Overcome By Events):

• VR GIS files: vrgis.exe, Vrgis.hlp, Notes to Self.rtf, 4 html files, Drone.zip [VrRcDrone.exe (in a zip file),(VrTaskDrone and VrgisDll.dll source only)(in a zip file)], BDE files are installed with a InstallBde.bat file launching the MiniReg.exe installer of BdeInst.dll.

• Remote Control remains unchanged... it seems to work ok.. could be improved.. features added.. later
• Task commander: Dlls got too big, so just the source for 1 is included... Now tasking will control VR GIS programs themselves rather than a dll clone drone on networked computers (as of Oct2004 only DTM is Drone capable)... need to change Task commander so it seems to be multi-tasking.. several available program Tasks running at once on several computers...
• Tasks available per Program... sometimes it seems it would be easier to just run the other computer/program by Remote Control...
• View commander NOT Actually here... whatever it is will be SOS MAP™.. The purpose will be to View..Monitor 3D Projects. (Indy based code based on Marcus MuPlane Base) See GL Scene. SOS MAP will have processing capabilities of its own... so maybe there does need to be an actual View Commander that tasks other computers for data processing and maintains the display... or a beastly description of VR GIS program history.
