Life 3.6 and the controls.
- New to Life 3.6: Includes the Delphi source code
- [September, 2004] New to Life 3.4: 3D Boids and 3D Life (reads .lif files), OpenGL® / GLScene replace DirectX, no install program - just unzip the file, only 1 bird song (they were all lousy anyway), many sample Bird and Life files. Program does not require registration - no cost. It is copyright, 3D Boid source is at Cape Raven.
- Life™: is an adaption of "the game of Life" (not to be confused with the board game) by Conway wherein cells live {remain}, multiply {appear} and die {disappear} according to rules. Life has evolved into 2D Cellular Automata having attributes and on into 3D characters... Fractal 3D™ is also interesting.
- Termites, Ants, and GRF (Grass-Rabbit-Fox) are confined in this life by 2D existence. Birds still needs development of a 3D shape editor with coloring capability. Dolphins, Mazed Mobiles and Torso do not really exist. per Reynolds, the design is under construction in Birds, when developed, the extension of behavior to Locomotive characteristics in Bird wing-flapping and body movement-locomotion in Fish while Bods will achieve goal setting to solve the maze of life. All are to become OpenGL® 3D animals packaged as a zip file. Unzip it in a directory of choice and make a shortcut... no installation program... delete the directory when your interest in life dies.
3.3 uses DirectX and an Install program... the actual program is ~1.2M, ~300k is due to Bird songs included within the program.

alife..AI..CA..GA..NN is investigated by Dr. Eckart,
G.W. Flake, and the Primordial Soup Kitchen. Life32© by Johan Bontes is an amazing (virtually spatially unlimited) implemetation of Life patterns (by Hensel , Silver et. al.) while Mirek’s Cellebration© of Life performs many (all) CA rules in an organized fashion.
Rudy Rucker has gnarly chaotic Life, Jason Rampe has
Visions Of Chaos (used to be free, not anymore), and Craig W. Reynolds Boids
Boids
Boids in a PI have set off a Swarm© of
autonomous characters. French Maze Walkers And so it seems LEGO
has with MINDSTORMS. L systems were pioneered by Dr. Przemyslaw Prusinkiewicz in his (papers) to display the growth of plant life. On the other side of life: Tom Ray's
Tierra simulates a virtual computer and its operating system which results in the production of synthetic organisms.
- David Kerr has developed AI Planet: an opensource Delphi program that integrates all this kind of stuff into an interactive 3D World!
Buttons: Life, Editor, Color, Termites, Ants, GRF (Grass-Rabbit-Fox), Bird, [Fish], Bod, Help, About... [next version...] The Menu launches a ~2D version while the buttons do ~3D versions of the topics.
Life
Genesis: Load a Life style from file and then start life depending on previous menu selections and the type of file selected.
Exodus: Stop Halt Kill
Leviticus: Start Random Life (depending on previous menu selections)
Scoreboard: Displays Game Scores
(MENU: Right click inside the display area)
- Conway: Original life cell types
- Large Life Cells: Run (39 x 24 cells) inside the standard (300x400 pixel) Life box
- Small Life Cells: Run (78 x 48 cells) inside the standard (300x400 pixel) Life box
- Full screen Large: Expands screen - Large cells at 78 x 48
- Full screen Small: Expands screen - Small cells at 156 x 96
- Full screen Pixels: Expands screen -Pixel cells at Screen resolution (Note that edge type choices do not work here as this is truly a walled (dead) edge.
- ---------
- Open: Infinite Edges... cells disappear
- Walled: Frozen Edges... cells stick to the walls
- Torus: Mirrored Edges... cells teleport to the opposite wall
- ---------
- Slower: Enter Value next to Scoreboard to instill slowness ( change values slowly as just doing slowdown becomes a magnitude slower)
- Color my world: Color Cells according to their Life force
- Alien Life: Other life rules

Life's Editor: Generate life at [] Large 39x24 or [] Medium 78x48 cells
Regenerate button ... Change Life size and clear (Zero life)
Random Generator ... Change Life size and randomly generate life
Load and Save Buttons activate a file selection to Load a Life file Large 39x24 (*.llf) or Medium 78x48 (*.lmf).
Or Save a Life file at: Large 39x24 (*.llf), Medium 78x48 (*.lmf),
Small 156 x 96 (*.lrf), Pixel 780x480 (*.bmp).
At Small and Pixel sizes a (dialog) pops up to allow 'placement' of the smaller grid within the saved grids more expansive area.
Left Clicking the screen places (or remove) a selected life cell.
[ ]
Colors depicts cells according to their life force: cells live {Green-remain}, multiply {Yellow-appear}, and die {Red-disappear}. This is their current life force... on the next cycle they change color according to their life force.
Reload button activates a file selection to load the previously selected colors.
Defaults restores default colors.
Save activates a file selection to save the selected colors as the next loaded set of colors.
Termites eat wood and form interesting 'patterns' in their movement of the chips.
Ants ditto with ants, though more interesting to watch just a few, versus thousands of interesting termites.
Vants: Langton also created creatures called Vants, or virtual ants. These were V-shaped constructs that moved in the direction of their points. If the lead cell moved into a blank square on an imaginary grid, the vant continued moving in that direction. If the square was blue, the vant turned right and changed the colour of the cell to yellow. If the square was yellow, the vant turned left and changed the colour of the square to blue. Thus the vant left a trail behind it.
[GRF screen: why bother with a static picture that looks like the one above, you gotta see them move..., i do not do C so until there is a pascal Java... ]
GRF a currently dorky CA implementation of the Grass grows, Rabbits eat, Foxes eat litany.
Birds views of the bird style implementation
AI birds flight simulator. This zip file contains a .hlp file containing basic instructions for operating flocks of birds. The nbirdcell.html contains a grid to record the variables of flocks. These can be printed out from the program to compare the parameters and discern optimal bird types.

Info about Bird songs and Microphone building
My backyard birds for Flying Frenzy:
- 1 green Hummingbird... attacks-chases off any others ... set Humming bird feeder away from others
- flock of Gold Finchs: tend to gather in flocks and will 'peck' at others
- several House (Red) Finchs: semi single and friendly - no pecking
- several sparrows,
- wrens.. eat a little
- little round brown birds: pairs
- several nuthatch- gray flighty bird, chickadee? take 1 seed and fly off to tree to eat
- dozens of Cardinal pairs
- 1 Robin eats from the ground
- several Mockingbird pairs dont eat from feeders
- several Mourning Dove pairs... eat from ground or the Finch feeder plate
- large female Yellow-bellied sapsucker Woodpecker other birds fly off when it lands
- 1 pair small downy (w/wo red cap) Woodpeckers tends to eat like nuthatches
- 1 Blue Jay cleans out the tray with sweping bill - other birds stay away
- 1 Owl hunts ? at night
too many Crows, blackbirds, cowbirds, starlings
several Hawks
lost Eagles from Mississippi during winter

Fish: Dolphins is intended to be a 3D swim though aka iaw Birds,

Bod Todo: Mazed Mobiles focus on animation interaction
displays 3D views of selected Torso operations and contains Torso, Control, Views Sub-forms. Moving 3D viewing options are clicked on the Torso form.
[Bod] is merely holding its place in line... until it learns to walk in version 4D. Meanwhile see French Maze Walkers it is what I imagined Bod would be.[TBD]
Control is [TBD]
Views is [TBD]
